Background
Yasmin Metz-Johnson is a Sierra Leonean who is passionate about both storytelling and design. Yasmin, the creator behind Yasmin TELLS studied Interior Architecture as her undergraduate course in London and has since had the opportunity to work in two cities across two continents (London and Dakar). At the end of 2018, she relocated from the UK to her country of origin, Sierra Leone. After nearly two years spent in Senegal working at an architectural firm in Senegal’s capital city, this was a pivotal moment in her decision making on where in the world she wanted to be, what she considered important, where she could build on the legacy and also have a desired quality of life. Yasmin is convinced that she would not be where she is today if she didn’t ‘Travel, Explore, Live & Learn, Smart (TELLS).’
Between 2019-2020 Yasmin co-host the podcast ‘Y Square Pod’ alongside Yasmine Bilkis Ibrahim. The duo discussed life in Sierra Leone as young females of the diaspora navigating their way through the city of Freetown.
Since the beginning of Yasmin TELLS, Yasmin has learnt multiple multimedia skills which have opened doors for partnerships, project work, photography, creative direction and building brand identities opportunities.
During the Covid19 pandemic, Yasmin started an online series via Instagram called ‘Freetown to’ where she will speak with creator in another neighbourboring african city, giving a ‘virtual travel’ experience as Yasmin takes her audience to Monrovia, Cotonou, Accra, Abidjan, Bissau and Johannesburg in the IG live series.

As of 2021, Yasmin launched her own event: YASMIX! A space for like minded people who would like to network and gain a new experience. YASMIX vow two things: 1. To curate an experience. 2. Good vibes only! During the very first YASMIX! event in February ‘21, Yasmin exhibited her photography showcasing Sierra Leone.
With experience in both the design industry and content creation, Yasmin has taken part in panel events in the UK as a speaker. Written for publications, hosted live shows, worked with individuals, organizations and brands producing content, she has participated in travel events and more. Yasmin believes in the power of collaboration and networking and is always looking to work with like-minded people.
